Important Safety Notice to Consumers

Posted: 9/28/2007

This Safety Notice is being sent to all Travis Consumers who own a Fireplace Xtrordinair 36 CFR, 36 CFA, or Fireplace Xtrordinair Model 1080 Clean Face Gas Fireplace. If you have received this notice, our records indicate that you own one of the affected models.

SUMMARY:

Travis has learned of recent delayed-ignition incidents involving a leaking gas control valve manufactured by Skytech Products Group, which caused gas to flow into the firebox when the fireplace was turned off. These incidents did not result in personal injury or property damage.

A leaking gas control valve, however, can cause a dangerous amount of gas to accumulate in the firebox, or in the surrounding area. If ignited by the pilot light or other heat source, the accumulated gas can explode, resulting in property damage, serious injury, and even death.

We obtained your contact information from our customer database or from the authorized dealer who sold you your fireplace. If you own a fireplace covered by this Safety Notice, you must comply with the following instructions immediately.

RESPONSE REQUIRED:

  1. YOU MUST TURN OFF THE GAS SUPPLY TO THE FIREPLACE.
  2. DO NOT USE THE FIREPLACE.
  3. DO NOT TURN THE GAS SUPPLY TO THE FIREPLACE BACK ON UNTIL YOUR FIREPLACE HAS BEEN REPAIRED BY AN AUTHORIZED TRAVIS DEALER.
  4. IT IS NOT SUFFICIENT TO JUST TURN OFF THE FIREPLACE; THE GAS SUPPLY TO THE FIREPLACE MUST BE TURNED OFF.

MODELS AFFECTED:

Fireplace Xtrordinair model 36 CFR Fireplace, manufactured from 6/26/2006 to 8/8/2007, Serial Nos. 3207-000000 through 3207-001096.

Travis will be issuing an update to this Safety Notice in the near future with specific information regarding repair and replacement of the affected gas control valve. Your dealer will be in contact with you to schedule an appointment to replace the gas valve and turn the fireplace back on at no charge to you. When the replacement gas valve is available, it will be provided to you, and installed, at no charge. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
